Last week, SeaGrown was proud to be part of the international conversation shaping the future of sustainable maritime operations at the 3rd Port Entrepreneurship International Congress (PEIC) in Valencia, Spain. Hosted by Opentop and Fundación Valenciaport, this key event brought together innovators, investors, port authorities, and corporations from around the world to accelerate the transition towards smarter, cleaner ports.
Our Founders, Wave Crookes and Professor Laura Robinson, attended the congress, participating in the Blue Economy "Innovation Lighthouse" session alongside other fascinating businesses. This provided a fantastic platform to discuss how SeaGrown's pioneering work can directly support sustainable port development.
As Wave shared in his reflections after the event: "SeaGrown can support sustainable port development by delivering science and evidence-based bioremediation and biodiversity gain wherever it is needed. It was incredibly encouraging to discuss this with members of the PIN - Port Innovators Network."
Ports are vital hubs, but face significant environmental challenges. Events like PEIC are crucial for fostering collaboration and exploring nature-positive solutions like our "Seaweed as a Service" model, which offers ports a proven way to improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, and meet ambitious ESG targets.
We'd like to extend our thanks to Opentop for organising such a valuable event, to Jason Giffen and Oliver Risse for chairing the Blue Economy panel, and especially to Dr Jo North and the Port of Tyne team for creating the opportunity through their superb Venture Connect programme.
And yes, according to Wave, they even managed a quick dip in the Mediterranean to round off a successful week!
