Here at SeaGrown, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation of creators, thinkers, artists, and innovators. That’s why we are thrilled to launch our first-ever "Design a SeaTree" competition for local primary schools!
We're inviting young innovators to imagine and design their very own 'Sea Tree' – a device, like our own Kelpedo™, for growing seaweed in the sea. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about marine ecosystems, sustainable engineering, and the incredible power of seaweed, all while getting creative.
The Challenge: Design a 'Sea Tree' for growing seaweed. Your design can be a drawing, a painting, a collage, or even a 3D model made from recycled materials! We want to see your most creative and imaginative ideas.
Who Can Enter? The competition is open to all primary school classes in the Scarborough and coastal Yorkshire area.
The Prize: The winning school will receive a fantastic, hands-on prize package dedicated to ocean restoration:
-
Your Own 'Sea Tree': We will dedicate one of our Kelpedo™ 'Sea Trees' to your school for a full year, helping to offset CO2 and create a thriving marine habitat in your name.
-
Regular Science Updates: You will receive exclusive updates from our science team throughout the year, tracking the progress and the biodiversity of your school's 'Sea Tree'.
-
A Seaweed Seed Hunting Mission: A small group of pupils from the winning class will be invited to join our team on a real-life 'seaweed seed hunting mission' on the Scarborough coast!
How to Enter: Teachers, please gather your class's designs and send photos of them, along with your school's name and contact details, to hello@seagrown.co.uk. The deadline for entries is the 16th of November 2025.
We can't wait to see your incredible underwater inventions!
