A Day in the Life of Jake, SeaGrown's Senior Project Officer

Ever wondered how our offshore operations run so smoothly? Meet Jake, SeaGrown’s Senior Project Officer and one of our skilled Skippers! Jake plays a vital dual role, ensuring our team has everything needed onshore to succeed offshore.

Jake's day might begin shoreside, meticulously planning the logistics for upcoming work at our offshore cultivation site. This could involve coordinating equipment availability – ensuring Kelpedo™ units are ready, ropes are spliced, and vital components are in place – or liaising with the crew to schedule vessel movements aboard Bright Blue or Razorbill. He also works closely with external partners on collaborative projects, like our current deployments with Stronger Shores or planning for initiatives with companies such as RWE, ensuring multi-agency efforts align seamlessly. His foresight ensures every piece of the puzzle is ready before we even leave the harbour.

Then, Jake might swap the planner for the helm! As Skipper, he expertly navigates the dynamic North Sea, positioning the vessel for seaweed cultivation tasks, scientific surveys, or vital maintenance work. His practical skills and calm command are essential for safe and efficient operations, especially when deploying or recovering our Kelpedo™ units in challenging conditions. He’s truly at the heart of making things happen, from initial plan to successful execution at sea.

"I love the blend of planning and practical application," says Jake. "One hour I might be deep in logistics, the next I'm skippering Bright Blue out at the site. Seeing a complex operation, especially one involving multiple partners, come together successfully out on the water – that’s incredibly rewarding."

With his blend of organisational skill, maritime expertise, and hands-on leadership, Jake is fundamental to turning SeaGrown's ambitious ocean restoration plans into reality, both for our own site and collaborative projects. We're lucky to have him navigating the course!
