We are incredibly proud and excited to officially announce our first corporate partner for our new environmental programme, "Plant a Tree in the Sea"! Bulgin, a leading manufacturer of environmentally sealed connectors and components, has joined us in a multi-faceted partnership to support ocean restoration and sustainable innovation.
This collaboration is a perfect example of how our mission resonates with forward-thinking businesses. It all started, as many great things do on the Yorkshire coast, over a simple coffee in Scarborough between our co-founder Wave Crookes and John Love from Bulgin. A shared vision for creating tangible, positive environmental impact quickly became apparent, growing into the fantastic partnership we're celebrating today.
As our first "Plant a Tree in the Sea" partner, Bulgin is investing in their own dedicated Kelpedo™ unit – their ‘Tree in the Sea’ – which is now deployed at our offshore cultivation site. This directly contributes to enhancing marine biodiversity, improving water quality, and sequestering carbon in the North Sea.
Beyond this investment, the partnership deepens through technological collaboration. Bulgin’s robust, environmentally-sealed connectors are set to be integrated into our onshore hatchery, supporting the crucial monitoring of water quality, temperature, and salinity during the early growth phases of our kelp. This integration of their technology into our systems showcases a truly symbiotic relationship.
Reflecting on the partnership, Wave Crookes commented, “That mission really resonated when I sat down for a coffee in Scarborough with John Love from Bulgin, and we realised our goals were closely aligned. What began as a simple conversation has grown into a partnership that we’re proud of – one that’s already making a real impact.”
John Love, Business Development Manager at Bulgin, added: “From our very first meeting, it was clear that SeaGrown’s mission aligned closely with Bulgin’s values. Their approach to ocean regeneration delivers real, measurable impact – from boosting biodiversity to supporting coastal communities – and we’re proud to back that with both funding and technology.”
We are thrilled to have Bulgin onboard and look forward to a long and impactful partnership, cultivating a healthier ocean together.
